Today’s Focus: Salvation for Our Generation
2 Peter 3:9-12 (NIV)
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a]
11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
Our God loves everyone! He loves the world. He is patient with us and is desirous that all will come to know Him.
As we look forward to the day of the Lord’s return we should live holy lives.
Peter starts with a nice peaceful beginning, God is patient. Yet with his usual energy Peter closes out the passage with an urgency, we can’t be patient, we need to do all we can do to communicate to every person possible.
This urgency can’t be just with Peter, but it needs to be in us.
We need to get a vision of what God wants to do in our lives. This begins in bold, revival types of prayer.
Revival means a restoration of life and is stirred in 21 days of prayer.
When we participate with others in 21 days of prayer, that is revival!
However our world is in desperate need, so we need to actually start now. Day #22 of prayer is our starting line. 21 Days of prayer is a launching of a discipline in prayer that can bring an awakening.
A revival is a restoration, but an awakening is a resurrection of the dead coming to life.
This urgency needs then to start with us. Can a move of God begin with our generation? Can God break out of the walls of our church through us.
There have been at least three great awakenings in our country.
Can God birth within our hearts a passion and vision for letting Him use us into the 4th great awakening in the 21st century?
