S. Exodus 20:7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name.”
O. I used to think this verse meant not speaking God’s name in the form of swearing (cussing). However, it is far more than that. I’m not to treat God’s name as empty or for nothing - Rather - God has revealed Himself through His covenant names to reveal His character and bless us. These names can all be found in principle in Psalm 23:1-6:
Jehova-Raah - God is my Shepherd. Jehova-Jire - God is my provider. Jehova-Shalom - God is my peace.
Jehova-Rapha - God is my healer. Jehova-Tsidkenu - God is my righteousness. Jehova-Shamah - God is There.
Jehova-Nissi - God is my banner of victory. Jehova-M’Kaddesh - God is my sanctifier.
A. I will incorporate the names of God into my prayer life. I will further teach the principle of praying His covenant names to others and I will claim the promises that come with each of His revealed names. His name reveals more about who He is. He answers prayers not based on who I am, but on who He is.
P. Thank you Father for revealing yourself through your covenant names. I will put your names to their proper use and pray them in praise with thanksgiving. Thank you for revealing yourself through your names. I praise you In Jesus’ name!
