S. Leviticus 19:9-10 (NIV) 9 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.
O. God taught His people to not consume everything they worked for. They were to leave a little for those that were poor and/or had limited resources. This is, at least what I call, “The Principle of Margin.” Do not budget everything you produce/create or earn, rather, have some savings so that you can bless others.
A. I will continue to practice (observe) the Principle of Margin. Our church, Better Life Church Newaygo practices this and I will continue to practice this in my individual life and that is each year, budgeting 90% of the previous year’s income leaving 10% margin. By the way, the 90% includes the tithe, so that there is a true 10% margin of un-catogrized resource available to bless others or to handle what Dave Ramsey calls “emergency expenses.”
P. Thank you Father for your word today. Thank you for revealing to me this “Principle of Margin.” Holy Spirit fill me and guide me to faithfully produce fruit and set aside savings (margin) that I might be ready for any emergencies and/or to bless others. In Jesus’ name!
