S.O.A.P. 30 Day Challenge - Day 1 - November 1, 2022 - “My Help Comes From the Only God, the One True God.”

S. Psalm 121:1-2, 7-8 (NIV)

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore

O. This is one of my favorite psalms. It’s in the section of Psalms that are referred to as “Psalms of Ascents.” As believers were going up to Jerusalem (literally ascending up the mountain) they had their moments of praise, worship, and adoration. This psalmist is reflecting on just how great and wonderful the Lord God is.

He writes, “I look or lift up my eyes to the mountains (the hills) where does my help come from? The hills or mountains were the places where the false gods IMolech, Baal, Asherah, etc.) were thought to live . The psalmist says “I’m looking there but there is no help to be found from there, my help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” The Psalmist not only shares that the true God, the One God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, is the source of our help, but that He knows us, cares for us and sees us.

He is not only the great God, maker of heaven and earth, but he is tremendously interested in each of us. He does not slumber (apparently the pagans “allowed” their gods a little nap time). But the one true God, He is actively involved in our lives and looks out for us, protecting those who trust in Him.

A. What a great re-assurance to know that God is not ony the one true God, maker of heaven and earth, but that this almighty God loves you and me. He takes such an active interest in our lives. He is so in love with us that He sent His son to die for us that we might have a relationship with Him, (to be in His family). He watches over us with great longing to protect and provide for us. What a wonderful word and picture of our truly amazing God.

P. Thank you Father for your word today. Thank you that you are not only over all things but that you take an active part in the lives of those who place their faith in your son, the Lord Jesus. I ask that you watch over my steps today and that you protect me from anything that might be harmful and that you grant me continued opportunity to tell others of truly how amazing you are. In Jesus’ name!
